Maha Mantra- (One bead One Mantra( Do not chant on head bead)-
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

How to chant Maha Mantra on Your Japa Mala beads-

  1. Use your right hand to hold the Tulsi Mala.
  2. Place the Mala over your middle finger.
  3. Use your thumb to move each bead, pulling the Mala toward you after chanting each mantra.
  4. Avoid using your index finger, as it is considered the instructing finger.
We put the beads in the Japa bag with the index finger through the small hole, so not to touch the Tulsi beads with our first finger.
One bead one Mantra until the bead just before the head bead (We do not chant on the head bead (Bead 109). That is considered one round (108 Beads) We then turn the Mala around in our hand and go back the direction we came and chant the next round.
16 rounds minimum is considered the goal for every day chanting in this age. Jagat Guru Srila Prabhupada set this standard for all his followers.

Additional Note: Keep your Japa beads in a bead bag in a clean place (Never in a bathroom or unclean place. (They are sacred Tulsi and must be respected).  It is recommended  not to put them on the ground, and do not let them touch your feet, and to chant with clean hands.
Children or new devotees should first chant on neem or other wood beads until they are confident to take care of their Tulsi Mala nicely.

Special Note- Srila Prabhupada instructed everyone to Chant Pancha Tatwa Mantra before we begin our chanting.
Pancha Tatwa Mantra-
jaya sri-krishna-chaitanya prabhu nityananda sri-adwaita gadadhara shrivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrinda.
The Pancha Tatwa Mantra will forgive us from offenses we may make while chanting. ie: Inattentive chanting. Or thinking wrong thoughts, etc.
Srila Prabhupada instruction is to simply focus on the sound vibration of the holy names. Keep brining the mind back to the sound.

Care instructions-
It is recommended to soak your beads for some time in Ghee or Mustard seed oil to preserve them. It is best to first offer them to Krishna before using them.
