The string is interchangeable. You can put any color string you like. Some devotees like to use a metallic string.

Choose size-

Measurements- as a belt- You can go one size smaller for necklace.
Small - For Small Deities 5 to 6 inches (Not for tiny Deities) 
Medium - 7 to 8 inch Deities 
Large -9 to 11 inches.
